What Chris Rock Taught Me

Chris Rock and Will Smith Episode

Before you think about anything else, as far as the episode between Chris Rock and Will Smith is concerned, I am nobody to comment on anything with authority. Neither I want to do any debate related to that. I don’t even wish to go into right-wrong conversation too although I am an ardent supporter of free speech. Moreover Will Smith has published an apology so I will put matter to rest there. So if you are looking for any spicy debate or controversial opinion please do not read further.

Now since you’ve made it till this sentence let me put down what I really want to talk about.

On the eve of Oscar Awards, Chris Rock faced a situation. A lot of people concentrated on the situation and controversy it generated. I watched the video on social media and honestly felt sick. It was an ugly sight. I was sad to see two really brilliant human beings caught up in that situation. But..

This is where my mind started analyzing Chris Rock’s situation. Because he was pushed to the wall both mentally and physically. If you observe closely, Chris Rock was shocked and awestruck for a few moments but, after that transient time he began his work as presenter and finished his job. After thinking a lot about how Chris handled the situation, I concluded that, he taught very important lessons. I tweeted about it but, it definitely needs a brief explanation. Hence this blog

Lessons Chris Rock Taught Us

Compose Yourself in Adversity

Chris Rock could have easily lost his cool and retaliated but, he did not. Many people think he should have but, think about it is a person’s ego bigger than the award, achievement or the ceremony? Will Smith didn’t think about it but Chris did. He was shaken up and awestruck in disbelief. It took a few moments for him to understand the reality of the situation. Once he got over the transient time and his mind acknowledged the reality, Chris gathered his senses, straighten up his emotions and stood up right. He composed himself and got ready to do his job. This is such a big lesson for those who never accept the reality, face it and compose themselves to do the needful.

Stand Your Ground & Never Leave The Show

It’s always easy to back down, sulk or just lose the concentration. Chris did neither of these. He did not sulk, did not complain at same time he did not back down. Chris rock stood there, as an owner of the job. He owned everything, gulped the ego and continued working on his job. It’s always easy to say “show must go on”. Sometimes, it takes a lot of courage to keep the show running. He could have showed the back and rest assured he had enough reasons to do so. Yet, Chris decided to stand his ground and continue doing his work. This is a quality every executive must posses who’s running the show.

Stop Not Being Yourself, Even If You Are Hurt

Chris Rock is a all bets off kind of a classic comedian. He is one of the best and he has worked very hard to reach where he is. Obviously, Chris was hurt. From my own study he was not only hurt physically but also hurt emotionally. He was taken aback by the response from a person he never expected to act in such a manner. But, doesn’t it happen with everyone of us too. The best part was that even if he got assaulted for a joke, he did not stop making jokes and fun of everything just like he does any other Sunday. I find this lesson as a very strong message. A man must not lose his originality and character no matter what. It shows how mature and true to the heart you are. Chris did exactly that!

Don’t Forget To Smile

If you watched after the unfortunate event, Chris after overcoming initial shock smiled at Will. He SMILED! Do you even know how powerful a smile is? A simple smile can lift a person from depression into the light at same time can destroy the ego and confidence of the enemy/adversary. Chris smiled all the way. More interestingly, he smiled at Will Smith and his family. Think about the impact of that smile on Will Smith and his family. I am sure he and his family will remember Chris’s smile for a long long time. And for us the audience on the fence, it showed me how courageous and determined Chris Rock is. That day he taught me smile at your friends, and your enemies to. Don’t forget to smile no mater what the situation is.

Finally,

I want to thank Chris Rock to teach these lessons which will definitely help me and others to be a better human beings.

Please let me know what you think about my point of view and analysis.
